Did someone say food.......?
The time has come. Jude has spent the last 4 weeks watching Dale and I eat and drink at every meal! We don't know who is worse, Jude or Presley when it comes to watching people eat???? Being a dietitian and having too much knowledge in this area proved to be a little painful to make a decision on WHEN to introduce solids with recent research saying 4 months, but the majority still saying 6 months. So, what did we do...., we took the middle road and 5 months was the day!(that, and plus Jude trying to take food out of our hands and mouth!!). There has been no turning back..... where there is food, there's Jude! Did we have any doubt?
Grandma arrived in Rocky for a few days and little did she know that she would be in for the 'chief' feeder role. So, after a quick kiss and cuddle (and removing of the lipstick from Jude's face), it was onto business...., LUNCH!!!!
Thanks to a few wise friends with experience, Jude was stripped down to the bare minimum. Nappy and singlet! We thought we would first give him his spoon to suss out, construction cutlery, from Grandma and Grandad for Christmas.
It only took a few times in 'the chair' before Jude realised what being strapped in at the table meant. As you can see from the absolute joy on his face (see picture below), he looooooves breakfast, lunch and dinner. The moment you pop him in his highchair, his arms start flapping, his legs start kicking, and the squeels that come out of his mouth can be heard from 3 streets away!!
We started off with rice cereal, and despite persistence over the coming weeks, he was not a big fan. Next was the vegies and with a mummy as a dietitian, I think he knew that he HAD to love them. Just kidding..., it only took him two goes on the pumpkin and it was down the hatch! We introduced a few more and then onto fruit. There were no second chances there - success on all first attempts!!!!!
At 5 1/2 months, Jude loves pumpkin, potato, sweet potato, zucchini (gross hey), beans, fruit toast, mango, nectarine, peach, lychee, apple, banana and pear. His favourite vegetable is zucchini (weird I know), and his favourite fruit is mango. Mummy and daddy had a miscommunication one weekend when daddy accidently fed Jude two whole pears (after his first course of pumpkin), instead of 1-2 tablespoons. Jude wasn't complaining - he he he!

'What do I do with this?'
Jude sussing out his spoon
'Hmmm, I think this goes in here'
Jude still sussing out his spoon
'Yeah, jackpot. Ready, ready ready....'
Jude with this 'eating thing' all figured out
